Building an Air Quality Monitoring Sensor Network

On Wednesday, 8 July 2026, we participated on the installation of air quality sensors at the Smolenice.

Building an Air Quality Monitoring Sensor Network

The installation is part of the LIFE IP – Improvement of Air Quality (Populair) project, which aims to build a sensor network that complements the national air quality monitoring network.

The sensors are being placed at selected locations, particularly in areas where air quality is significantly affected during the winter months by household heating using solid fuels and transport.

The main goals of the project is to increase the availability of air quality information and raise public awareness of air pollution issues at the local level. The sensors monitor concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 particulate matter, which are among the most important indicators of air quality and have a significant impact on public health.

Although the sensors do not provide accredited reference measurements, they offer valuable information on the temporal trends of air pollution and its variations across different locations.

The measured data are published on the project website: https://dnesdycham.populair.sk/senzory
