The SHMÚ stand also included a presentation of the results of the LIFE IP project – Improving Air Quality. The presentation of our colleague Samuel Vincze, who presented a new, simple and affordable prototype of a air quality sensor created as part of the project, received particular attention. This is a solution that could expand the possibilities of air pollution monitoring beyond the existing network of automatic monitoring stations in the future, mainly due to its low price and ease of use. Visitors had the opportunity to see the prototype live and discuss with our colleague directly about its functioning and the future direction of development.
In addition to the LIFE IP project and the new sensor, the department also presented a wider range of work and products of the Emissions and Air Quality division at the stand. Visitors learned how air quality is monitored and evaluated in Slovakia, how emission inventories are created, and what data and outputs the section has available to both the professional and lay public on its website. The stand was one of the most sought-after places at the exhibition center during the day. Many visitors across all age categories stopped by it. We were extremely pleased with the lively interest in the work of the SHMÚ and the topics of climate change, air quality, and the positive feedback on the presented sensor.
