The updated inventory confirms the long-term downward trend in air pollutant emissions in Slovakia. Compared to 1990, emissions of major pollutants have decreased by approximately 60-98%. A significant reduction has been achieved, particularly in the energy and industrial sectors, where modern technologies and stricter emission limits have substantially curtailed air pollution.
Positive developments are also evident in emissions of nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, volatile organic compounds, and carbon monoxide. From a public health perspective, the long-term decline in fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and in heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants is particularly important.
The results also confirm that the Slovak Republic is fulfilling its international commitments under the NEC Directive (EU) 2016/2284 and the CLRTAP Convention for the 2020–2030 period. The updated inventory thus provides an important overview of emission trends and supports further measures to improve air quality.
