What is REFUREC?

Slovakia is represented in the Renewable Fuels Regulators Club several times through the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic and the SHMÚ.

What is REFUREC?

The Renewable Fuels Regulators Club (REFUREC), or the Renewable Fuels Regulators Club, brings together all countries (mainly EU, but also the UK, Norway, Turkey, Iceland) that are interested in addressing their current issues in the field of renewable fuels in transport on a common platform. REFUREC is a network of governmental and professional institutions responsible for the regulation of biofuels within a country and offers a platform for the discussion of sensitive information, exchange of experiences, and cross-border cooperation. REFUREC brings together 31 countries that actively participate in discussions, meeting agendas, and programs following the European model. For the second time, since 2011, Portugal has hosted a regular meeting of REFUREC members. LNEG, as the Portuguese member of REFUREC, in collaboration with ENSE, organized the 25th meeting of the Club members at the end of October. The meeting, which was opened by the Secretary of State for Energy and Environment of Portugal, Dr. João Galamba, had a triple Slovak representation.

The area of biofuels in transport started to resonate in 2011 and is now changing dynamically, whether it is at a political, professional, or business level. For proper coordination, management, and information, it is important to regularly exchange experiences and share the latest knowledge. REFUREC is an advisory body to official working groups at both European and national levels. The secretariat's chairmanship rotates every two years (currently Denmark), with members meeting semi-annually; the host country for the meetings is selected on a voluntary basis.
